Aquarium Drunkard Presents: Dreams Of Girls
A bunch of us drove from L.A. to Long Beach last month for night two of Reigning Sound's two night run at Alex's Bar. To say it was exactly the kind of sonic punch in gut we were looking for would be an understatement. I've since been revisiting Dangerous Game – the Reigning Sound-backed Mary Weiss album Norton Records released in 2007. Weiss’s first record in decades (Shangri-Las related or otherwise) Dangerous Game's sound - produced by Greg Cartwright (Reigning Sound) - harkens back to the Shangri-Las' Shadow Morton produced material – the same guy that went on to produce the second NY Dolls LP.
Hence the theme of this week's Rhinofy entry: Dreams of Girls. I initially wanted to concentrate on some of the more obscure tracks I've wrangled over the years, but had to opt for a more mainstream compilation due to limited selection (although Spotify did have gems like The Girls's "Chico's Girl"). Dig in.
