Them Belly Full (But We Hungry) (Live)
Bob Marley

Label: Island
Released: 1975

Bob Marley has been embraced the world over for his message of peace, love, and music. Ranked #11 on Rolling Stone’s list of “The Greatest Artists of All Time”, Marley made a lasting mark on not only Black history but music history as well. Amongst the tumultuous times of the 60’s and the 70’s, which were rich with racial discrimination and cultural intolerance, Bob became a voice of compassion. Like the good Dr. King, he did not fight with anger against hate, instead demonstrated perseverance in the face of people who did not believe in the unity of all humanity. “Them Belly Full (But We Hungry)”, recorded live in 1975, asks you to forget your troubles and dance. So today, “emancipate yourself” and just dance.

A little reggae goes a long way but is a valuable part of your musical diet.

I believe when you reach the pearly gates it will be Marley who meets you on the other side!

  3. Rael Says:

NOW we’re talking! One of my true regrets in life is not having seen Bob play live. His influence can’t be overstated. BTW, he would have turned 65 last Saturday…if he were still here, I sincerely doubt that he would have retired from his mission — to spread Jah Love to All. Damn Fine Pick.

    Now this is history.

of the official live marley cds this is the one is always recommend first…. @rael: believe it or not the first time i saw marley live he played a 600 capacity club in cleveland…and it didn’t even sell out…it was uplifting, transcendent,….my friend deb summed it up best after the show : “there’s probably not a dry seat in the house”

Natty dread - that’s great ! The original is still the best!
I love the Babylon By Bus disc and always considered it one of the ultimate live discs. With all the raves here, I’ll need to recheck this one out. RIP Rasta Man.

One of the greats. He could send a great message out while making you hum along or may6be making you want to sway. Great cut compared to the rest of the garbage that DFD was giving us last week. DFD is usually on the mark but are you guys trying to get too PC with Black History month? I think Blacks also enjoy White music when it’s good.

I wish I was eloquent enough to properly state what Bob Marley’s music means to me. He is the #1 greatest artist of all time on my list! Any time of any day can be made better with any Bob Marley song-not just the “greatest hits”. Good job today DFD! I have seen about 500 concerts since 1977 and like Rael-this is the big one that got away. I would trade most of them to go back and see him. All that I can say is go see his kids in concert if you haven’t already. All of them that are making music make some very good music of their own plus they always play some of his songs and that is as close as you can get now. I’ve seen them all and have never been disappointed.

I need reggae music like I need oxygen

Love it. I’ve always felt that Live! is better than Babylon By Bus, even tho it’s half as many records. It has more magic, I guess. I do envy anyone who caught Bob live. In the weekend after John Lennon’s death, I performed Bob’s No Woman No Cry with a group of folks at our one and only show: it felt right.

  14. Andeby Says:

yeah, this is nice indeed, love bob marley. But, but, but I thought the idea here on dfd was to show people something new, obscure, hidden, underappreciated, forgotten….this track hardly qualifies in that respect. This is just opium (for the people, or ganja), sweet opium though, but opium none the less!

  15. Dave B. Says:

Well, this isn’t obscure, I guess…but for folks who only know the songs on “Legend” it is surely a wonderful discovery. One of my favorite Marley tunes, in the version that I first heard. Nice pick!

  16. Danny Says:

Bob Marley is one of my best artist he is a favorite when it comes to his music.

  17. Bob from Canonsburg Says:

Bought this when it first came out on LP. Like most hear I also missed him in concert and he came to Pittsburgh a few times. There is even a song that was recorded live here that was his last concert on I believe his greatest hits.

  18. dintimid8er Says:

I have always loved Marley’s music and message. Great pick, thanks DFD!!

  19. tymxeluv Says:

always loved this live version. Marley rules…just to think he last performed in Pgh. and I didnt get to see him..Happy B-Day (2/6) Tuff Gong!

Very nice track, the state of the art as far as reggae went in 1979. You can see from the video that the audience was quite pleased with the performance. - Jon Wyderka -
