Best Days of Our Lives
Weekend Players
Weekend Players
Label: Multiply
Released: 2002
Vocalist Rachel Foster and Groove Armada wunderkind Andy Cato came together as Weekend Players shortly into the new millennium. Though their take on electronica is informed by Foster’s love of classic soul and disco and Cato’s background with DJ and hip-hop beats, the Players go downtempo for “Best Days Of Our Lives,” from their 2003 debut Pursuit Of Happiness. Written in tribute to the singer’s older sister, the song espouses the virtues of taking one’s time; and from Foster’s siren-like background vocals to the slowly percolating bassline, the track is filled with production touches that will reward patient listeners.

I was previously unfamiliar with them, but glad for the introduction. What a smooth segue into the Weekend.

Very cool. I’ve had this cd for a while but haven’t really ever listened - lame! Thanks for slowing me down a minute to listen to something cool…

Nice chill out music for a beautiful perfect weather Friday afternoon. There have been a lot songs on here that I had not heard by artists I knew of but this is the first time you hit me with a band or artist I had never even heard of. I like hearing unfamiliar songs by familiar artists but this is even better when it’s completely new. Not sure if Multiply is a WEA/Rhino related label but if it’s not and you’re willing to put up some other “outside” music then the possibilities are endless. Bring on the overlooked gems!

I dig Groove Armada, but had never heard of this “side” project. If this track is indicative of the rest, I may be adding it to my list of things to get at Amoeba Records during my next run…

Reminds me a little of Everything but the Girl. I’m a little late with the review, but vacation will do that to you. I had never heard of these guys before, but it’s very relaxing. Thanks again DFD for not sticking to the usual.
